We pride ourselves on making sure all animals travel as well as our passengers. All animals transported on Icelandair travel in a special climate-controlled transport area in the hold area of the aircraft.
The Animal in hold service and the Emotional support animal service are available during the holiday period between Keflavík and the following cities: Amsterdam, Boston, Copenhagen, Oslo, and Stockholm. The Animal in hold service is also available from London to Keflavik.
For more information or to book the service, please contact our service center.
Please note that due to the circumstances surrounding COVID-19, our flight schedule can change with short notice. If you have booked an animal for transport in the hold area of the plane, and the flight has been canceled, the animal will be booked on the next available direct flight with Icelandair. We are unable to book connecting flights with other airlines for pets.
All animals travelling to the United Kingdom/Ireland must be transported with Icelandair Cargo.
Please contact Icelandair Cargo for further information on the transport of animals to the United Kingdom/Ireland.
Emotional support animals are NOT recognized as assistance dogs by the UK Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs. Therefore, Icelandair cannot accept them for transport to the United Kingdom/Ireland.
Service animal is a dog which has been specifically trained to assist a disabled person and has been qualified by one of the charitable organizations, meeting the full membership criteria of Assistance Dogs International (ADI) or International Guide Dog Federation (IGDF), the accrediting bodies for assistance dog organizations worldwide. Icelandair only accepts specifically trained and certified assistance dogs on board. The service dog must provide support to the actual traveler. The documentation may not be more than six months old.
Emotional support and psychiatric assist animals are accepted in the passenger cabin for qualified individuals. Emotional support animal requires a doctor certificate specifying that the passenger traveling requires assistance from the animal accompanying the passenger. Unfortunately, we can't allow any animal, regardless of their size, to travel in the passenger cabin of our aircraft unless they are specially trained and certified.
Verification of documentation will include Icelandair contacting your medical/mental health professional. If we are unable to validate the documentation or if the advance notification is not given we will not be able to accept your specially trained and certified assistance animal. The documentation may not be more than six months old.
A blind passenger may be accompanied by a seeing-eye dog in the cabin provided that the dog is properly harnessed and muzzled. The dog is not permitted to occupy a seat and must not block the aisle.
Permits must be obtained for entry into the country of transit and/or destination where necessary.
Icelandair will only accept one service animal in the passenger cabin per flight. Please contact Icelandair at least two business days prior to your departure to book space for your service animal.
